Hi, I’m Mac.
Too much stuff can be surprisingly exhausting.
Looking for something in a hurry before heading out.
Standing in front of the closet, unsure what to wear.
The subtle pressure of spending time in a cluttered room.
Cleaning and tidying that feel like endless chores.
Before you know it, both your room and your mind feel crammed full.
When you own too much, it’s like your brain is always running—never able to fully rest.
That’s when I discovered minimalism.
At first, I thought: “Living with less? Wouldn’t that be more stressful?”
But when I actually tried it, the opposite happened—
it was easier than I imagined, and both my days and my mind felt so much lighter.
This time, I’d like to share the good things about living minimally,
based on my own experience.
Your Mind Feels Clearer
When your room is messy, doesn’t your head feel messy too?
I never thought I owned that much to begin with…
But after living in Australia, I realized I could live with even less.
When I came back to Japan, I started decluttering my room.
After a full day of cleaning, I somehow ended up with ten 40-liter trash bags.
(So maybe I did own a lot after all 😂)
Once the clutter was gone, the pressure in the room disappeared,
and just having less visual noise made my mind feel much clearer.
When I narrowed my clothes and accessories down to only my favorites,
I spent way less time deciding what to wear.
And that’s when I realized—
reducing the number of decisions you make each day makes life so much easier.
You Gain Extra Time
I used to feel like I never had enough time…
but maybe that was because my stuff was eating it up.
For example:
- Cleaning → Fewer things means I can run a floor wiper over the room in minutes.
- Tidying → With less to organize, there’s hardly any mess in the first place.
- Finding things → I no longer wonder, “Where did I put that…?”
The time I used to waste dealing with stuff has now shifted to things I actually want to do.
These “small moments” add up, quietly raising my overall satisfaction each day.
You Save Money Without Trying
The first thing that surprised me after starting minimalism?
My money stopped disappearing.
Because I rarely buy things anymore.
I used to shop on impulse during sales or when something was trending.
Now, before I buy anything, I ask myself:
- Do I really need this?
- Can I replace it with something I already own?
- Will it last a long time?
Thinking this way has dramatically cut my wasteful spending.
Plus, since I shop less often, I can choose higher-quality items that I truly like—
and I regret my purchases far less.
Less Stuff, More Freedom
Since embracing minimalism, I’ve learned to love the comfort of “just enough” rather than “more.”
With fewer possessions:
- My mind is clearer
- My time is freer
- My finances are more stable
Minimalism isn’t about a strict or joyless lifestyle.
It’s about choosing—on your own terms—the things you love and keeping them close.
If you’ve been feeling like life is chasing you,
it might help to start by reducing the things around you.
It could make life feel just a little bit lighter.
