Goodbye TV, Hello Freedom

English

Hi, I’m Mac.

Today, I want to talk about the day I said goodbye to my TV.

A lot of people probably think, “Wait… how can you live without a TV?”

But honestly, I haven’t missed it at all—in fact, life feels so much lighter without one.

1. Why I Let Go of My TV

When I lived in Australia, my room didn’t have a TV, but I never felt deprived.

Instead, I spent more time going to cafés, or grabbing coffee and bread to enjoy in the park.

It felt incredibly refreshing.

Looking back, I realized that I often had the TV on without actually watching it—

or watched something simply because it was there.

And sometimes I’d hear news I didn’t want to hear, which would subtly lower my mood.

Without a TV, that background noise disappeared, and with it, a small but constant source of stress.

2. The Moment of Hesitation

To be honest, I hesitated for a bit.

The TV felt like the “center” of the home.

What about the news?

What if there was a disaster and I needed live updates?

But when I thought about it, I realized—

as long as I have my phone and laptop, I’m covered.

3. Life Without a TV Is Surprisingly Comfortable

Once the TV was gone, I noticed:

  • My room felt more spacious and open
  • I avoided negative news entirely (goodbye, information fatigue!)
  • Moving house became easier (I still have no idea how to properly pack a TV 😂)
  • I had more time (no more mindless watching)
  • No TV stand meant easier cleaning (no dust on top, in the gaps, or behind it!)

Now, instead of being shown whatever’s on, I choose what I watch.

4. Getting the Info I Need—Without TV

News and weather? I get them from apps or social media.

Curious about a specific show? I can catch it on TVer.

It’s made me realize—maybe we’re living in an era where TVs just aren’t essential anymore.

Without one, I find myself going out more, and I feel like my lifestyle is healthier.

Final Thoughts

Letting go of your TV might feel like a bold move.

But once you do, you might discover—

life without it is surprisingly fine.

And along the way, you might just gain an unexpected sense of freedom and peace of mind.
